The best travel photography is able to capture the decisive moment. When light, subject and the photographer’s vision all combine to create an image capable of conveying and soliciting emotions. Shadows moving on a wall, children lost in play, history etched in an old woman’s face; life is an infinite succession of fleeting moments. How often do we just look but fail to see?


A good photographer has a keen sense for the changing qualities of light throughout the course of a day. Shadows and spaces are as important as light and forms. I often see, in my mind’s eye, what a picture of a given situation could look like. I wait, or return, for the right light or someone to complement the frame.
