Crocodile Men

Yentchan Village, East Sepik, PNG, 2018. Digital Image

USD $400.00USD $950.00

Men from the Iatmul tribe on the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea undergo an initiation ceremony whereby their skin is cut and scarified to make it look like a crocodile skin.  I spent many weeks in 2018 to document this elaborate and painful ritual. Here the men are drying up after having covered their bodies with river clay to assist the healing and scarification process.

Description

For this exclusive collection of Black & White Fine Art Limited Edition prints Hans has selected images from his extensive travels over the past decades that, reproduced in monochrome, convey an intensity and intimacy so characteristic for his photographic style. Printed with archival inks on Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk paper each print is approved, titled, numbered and signed by Hans and includes a certificate of authenticity. Each image is available in four sizes, 10”x15” (roughly 25X38cm) in an edition of 50, 12”x18” (30X45cm) in an edition of 50, 16”x24” (roughly 40x60cm) in an edition of 35 and 20”x30” (50x75cm) in an edition of 25. Prices of limited edition prints will continue to rise as the edition sells.

Print sizes are approximate, depending on the image crop. All images are printed with a 5cm white border for ease of handling. The size mentioned is the size of the photograph and does not include the border (so for the true size of the paper add 10cm both to the length and the width)

All images in this curated collection are printed on demand and shipped from Hans’ studio in Bangkok. Exact delivery times depend on Hans’ travel. After receiving your order we will inform you about the shipping schedule.
